About the Academy

This one-week intensive course is designed to give an in-depth understanding and critical assessment of human rights laws, institutions, advocacy, and scholarship. Participants will learn about key international and regional human rights laws and the enforcement of human rights by courts, quasi-judicial bodies, the UN and other inter-governmental organizations and non-governmental actors.

Contributions by internationally recognized scholars and practitioners provide a bridge between the theoretical and the practical dimensions, with an emphasis upon various aspects of field practice.

The academy divides into distinct modules, each of which explores different aspects of the field to provide new insights and to advance our understanding of Human Rights, development and global history. Topics covered include

  • the History and Theory of Human Rights;
  • Institutions and Mechanisms of Human Rights Protection;
  • Business, Development & Environmental Rights and Justice;
  • Human Rights & Geopolitics;
  • Human Rights Lawyering; and
  • Human Rights in the Digital Age.
