(ls) The Supreme Court of Indonesia has upheld a blasphemy verdict against a Buddhist woman convicted for complaining about the volume of the Muslim call to prayer. The court rejected the appeal by a woman of Chinese descent and resident of a North Sumatran town, and upheld her 1.5-year prison sentence. The case dates back to 2016 when the woman reportedly said the call for prayer was “too loud” and “hurt” her ears. She is the first person to be sentenced to prison for complaining about the volume of a mosque’s speakers. [Jakarta Post]
