Dear readers,

After almost ten years of uninterrupted weekly publication, CPG has, with issue No. 22, June/2026, 1, temporarily suspended the regular publication of Asia in Review.

This brings to a close, at least for now, a continuous weekly effort of unusual duration, discipline, and institutional commitment. Week after week, across public holidays, vacation periods, institutional obligations, personal commitments, weekends, and changing circumstances, a small core team has carried this publication with remarkable reliability and dedication.

In recent years, this work has rested in particular on the sustained work, judgment, and commitment of my valued colleagues Duc Quang Ly, Lucas Meier, and Morten Strantzen. Duc Quang Ly has been part of Asia in Review from the very beginning. We also owe sincere gratitude to the many generations of volunteers, interns, contributors, and colleagues who have supported Asia in Review over the years.

Asia in Review was never commissioned work, nor was it a publication promised to any donor. What began as an internal instrument to support CPG’s own analytical and advisory work has, since 2017, been published as a public-service contribution. As such, Asia in Review sought to capture the relevant developments in constitutional politics, human rights, national security, geopolitics, and international relations within its regional scope, covering South Asia, Southeast Asia, and East Asia.

We are proud of what Asia in Review has become, and we are deeply grateful to all those who made it possible. We are equally grateful to our readers, many of whom have accompanied the publication over many years, made use of it, and, we hope, found it helpful in their own work and reflection.

At the same time, CPG’s institutional and funding environment has changed considerably over the past several years. Under present conditions, continuing a weekly publication of this scope would require time, attention, and institutional capacity that CPG now needs to direct more closely toward its core responsibilities, strategic priorities, and long-term financial sustainability.

This is a suspension — and, we very much hope, not a final farewell. We will use the coming period to reassess what is possible and sustainable. The Asia in Review archive will be renewed and made available as a resource.
