On September 24, the DAAD Information Centre Bangkok hosted a celebration at the Goethe-Institut Bangkok to mark the 100th anniversary of the German Academic Exchange Service (#DAAD). Founded in 1925, the DAAD has grown into the world’s largest funding organization for international academic exchange, supporting more than 3 million scholars and students over the past century. Its centennial has been celebrated worldwide, with special emphasis in Germany, where the DAAD is regarded as a cornerstone of international academic engagement and cultural diplomacy.
The program in Bangkok opened with welcoming remarks from Ebba Scholl, Chargée d’Affaires of the German Embassy in Bangkok, and Stefan Hase-Bergen, Head of the DAAD Division for Development Cooperation and Transregional Programmes. This was followed by a keynote lecture from CPG Director Henning Glaser on academic cooperation between Thailand and Germany, highlighting the contributions of the DAAD and the indispensable importance of education and science for sustainably addressing today’s global challenges.
The evening concluded with discussions among alumni, introduced by Dr. Rattikarn Khambud from the Ministry of Interior, Thailand, on strengthening the DAAD alumni network in the country, followed by a presentation of current scholarship opportunities and a lively reception offering ample opportunities for exchange and networking.
Special thanks go to Prakaikaew Thongtawepol and Issaraporn Kittiwisit from the DAAD Information Centre Bangkok for their kind hospitality and excellent organization.
