About the Event
The EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) applies a carbon price to the emissions embedded in certain carbon-intensive goods imported into the European Union (EU). It currently covers more than 570 product categories, mainly basic-material and upstream industrial goods, across the aluminium, cement, electricity, fertilisers, hydrogen, and iron and steel sectors. The scope is also expected to expand from 2028 to around 180 additional steel- and aluminium-intensive downstream products.
Under the definitive CBAM regime, effective since January 1, 2026, authorised CBAM declarants in the EU must submit their first annual CBAM declarations for 2026 imports and surrender the required CBAM certificates by September 30, 2027. To use supplier-specific actual values rather than default values, they need emissions data from the relevant non-EU producers, exporters, and suppliers. This means that CBAM is already creating concrete and growing compliance and commercial pressure along affected upstream supply chains: EU customers are already requesting CBAM-relevant embedded-emissions data, and such requests are likely to increase as the 2027 declaration and certificate-surrender deadline approaches.
For exporters and suppliers outside the EU, the task is therefore to use the remaining months of 2026 to become CBAM verification-ready before verification is expected to become practically available in early 2027. Entering that process with data, documentation, and internal structures already in place can help reduce the risk of delays, corrections, or failed verification at a point when EU customers will need reliable verified data and have limited room for uncertainty.
Achieving CBAM verification readiness may appear complex, but the path toward it can be broken down into practical steps during the remaining 2026 window. This webinar will translate this challenge into concrete steps and show affected companies how to move from fragmented customer responses and data gaps to reliable, verification-ready CBAM structures — while strengthening their position as credible, responsible, and attractive partners for EU customers.
