About the Event

The ongoing war in the Middle East illustrates how rapidly geopolitical developments can reshape economic realities far beyond their immediate region, including in Thailand, through disruptions to energy markets, supply chains, and the expanding use of sanctions and export controls. Yet such developments do not come as isolated crises. From Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine to intensifying geopolitical rivalries in Asia, they form part of a broader pattern of systemic volatility that is likely to persist and intensify.

This volatility reflects a deeper tectonic transformation of the global system, driven by a more volatile distribution of power in the international system, including shifting great-power relations, and rising geopolitical tensions. It is marked by the erosion of established international order, the reconfiguration of globalization, and a sharp increase in overlapping risks, from food, fuel, and fertilizer to critical minerals, and financial and logistical vulnerabilities.

For decision-makers, this creates the central challenge to make sense of a world in flux and assess its strategic implications for leadership, investment, and operations on the ground. This session is designed to offer an analytically grounded perspective on the forces reshaping the global environment and what they mean for policy and business decisions in practice.

About the Series

This session marks the inaugural edition of the newly established “Bangkok Business Intelligence Talks” series, jointly hosted by the DEG – Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH Representative Office Bangkok and the German-Southeast Asian Center of Excellence for Public Policy and Good Governance (CPG). The series is conceived as a platform for high-level exchange on timely and strategically relevant developments, providing decision-makers with analytically grounded perspectives on how evolving global, regional, and local dynamics shape business risks, opportunities, and strategic choices.
