📌 Short description: The third event in the CPG Constitutional Law Series, hosted by CPG to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the German Basic Law, is an online expert talk on the topic “The Principle of Proportionality and Discretion in Public Law.” This talk will introduce the principle of proportionality as a key tool for controlling measures and restrictions affecting rights and will explore its relationship with judicial discretion.

👨‍🏫 Speaker: Prof. Dr. Niels Petersen holds the Chair for Public Law, International Law, and European Union Law at Münster University’s Faculty of Law. He received his PhD from Goethe University Frankfurt am Main and his habilitation from the University of Bonn. His previous academic positions include research fellowships at Columbia University and New York University School of Law. His research interests encompass international human rights and domestic fundamental rights, international and EU economic law, comparative constitutional law, constitutional theory, the interplay of law and politics in judicial decision-making, and the economic analysis of law.
