Strong International Interest in CPG–DEG Webinar on CBAM Verification Readiness

15. July 2026

On 14 July, CPG and DEG — Germany’s development finance institution for private-sector investment in developing and emerging markets — jointly hosted the webinar “Achieving CBAM Verification Readiness in 2026: Practical Steps for Non-EU Producers, Exporters, and Suppliers,” in cooperation with our partner carboneer.

Designed primarily for DEG corporate clients worldwide, the webinar attracted more than 80 attendees, including selected additional companies and stakeholder organizations.

Over the course of the webinar, our colleague Lucas Meier, CPG Program Manager, and Simon Göß, Managing Director of carboneer, provided a practical regulatory overview of CBAM and its implications for non-EU companies exporting CBAM-covered goods or producing CBAM-covered precursor goods.

A central focus was the commercial significance of choosing between default values and supplier-specific actual emissions values. For non-EU producers and exporters, this choice can materially affect the commercial attractiveness of their products to EU importers and, ultimately, future sourcing decisions.

Building on this, the webinar examined what companies need to put in place to have their actual emissions values successfully verified once third-party verification becomes practically available in early 2027. This includes both the technical foundations – in particular the Monitoring Plan – and a company-specific CBAM governance and compliance framework required to design, implement, and operate these processes reliably.

The key takeaway: compliance pressure is high and will continue to increase, and the time available for affected non-EU companies to prepare is narrowing. Those taking concrete steps over the coming months can strengthen their competitive position, gain greater visibility into emissions across their own operations and upstream supply chains, and prepare more effectively for future decarbonization requirements—whether driven by international markets or domestic regulation.

This is precisely where the joint CPG–carboneer service portfolio provides support: through a modular, end-to-end approach tailored to each company’s specific CBAM exposure, existing capabilities, and level of preparedness.

We would like to thank all attendees for joining us and for their strong interest in the topic. Our particular thanks go to Carolin Freyer and Sarah S. from DEG’s Climate & Impact team, as well as to Benjamin Brink, DEG’s Regional Director for Southeast Asia, whose commitment and support made the webinar possible.
