From 26-27 November 2018 the Asian Governance Foundation (AGF) und the German-Southeast Asian Center of Excellence for Public Policy and Good Governance (CPG) with support of Hanns Seidel Foundation will host the conference “Shifting to A New Constitutionalism? Changing Political Orders in Asia” at Holiday Inn Sukhumvit Hotel, Bangkok.
The conference addresses the recent transformations of political orders in Asian countries in the course of a process in which the existing constitution and the normative frame of the political order is superseded by the factual political reality. In some cases this process has been a top-down transformation imposed by people in power, in other cases it has unfolded in the course of a struggle between conflicting political forces, ideologies and interests.
The conference aims to capture the current status of this transformative process in Asian countries affected and to analyze the causes of the drifting apart of constitutional norm and political reality and its consequences for the re-shaping of the countries’ political order.
Countries covered at the conference include Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, The Philippines, Vietnam.
